Osha’s Checklist: 5 Essentials for Your Pouring Site
In the world of construction, chaos is the number one enemy of profitability. That’s why our star inspector and mascot, Osha, has visited dozens of job sites and condensed her experience into this essential checklist. Before the first concrete truck arrives, make sure you have these 5 points covered.
1. Designated Washout Area
Osha says: “If you don’t know where you’re going to wash out, you’re going to end up making a mess of the entire site.” It is vital to designate a specific area for cleaning chutes and tools, preferably near the pouring site to minimize waste movement.
2. Operational Concrete Filters
Don’t wait for gray water to start flowing toward the storm drains. Having a concrete filtration system well-positioned ensures that sediment stays where it belongs and that the water discharged is significantly cleaner.
3. Full Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
Even Osha knows that safety is non-negotiable. Hard hats, nitrile gloves (to prevent concrete pH burns), and safety boots are a must. A safe pouring zone is an efficient zone.
4. Clear Access Routes
It seems obvious, but obstacles in the path of the mixer truck or the pump can cause costly delays and accidents. Keep the path clear of debris and loose materials.
5. Spill Contingency Plan
Even with the best equipment, accidents happen. Keep absorbent materials and quick-cleaning tools on hand. Osha always says: “It’s better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it.”
Conclusion: Following Osha’s checklist doesn’t just prevent fines; it projects a professional image to your clients. Are you ready for your next pour?
